Ever Wondered Why Your Beauty Tips Make You Look Older?

Wherever you look, there are beauty tips. Talk shows, magazines, even newspaper all tend to compile some sort of beauty advice within their frame – from caring about your teeth to the right and wrong ways of washing your hair. Add the internet into the mess, and it’s no wonder that the more trusting of us are frantically trying to use cat litter to exfoliate their face because Snooki told them so.

Obviously, you should take everything you read with a grain of salt. Bad advice will not only be useless, but possibly detrimental as well: it can make you seem older than you are, and it can harm your health. So how do you which tips to take and which to ignore? Read on and you’ll find out.

1. Pay more attention to your diet

Instead of focusing on the outside, deal with the inside first. Eating healthy and drinking enough water can do wonders for your complexion and the quality of your hair and nails. Eat enough fruit and don’t avoid eating your veggies, since they are the main source of vitamins and minerals your body needs. Not only will you look younger and brighter, but you’ll also feel so much better, more energized and happier – you’ll feel younger too!

2. Do exercise and get your beauty sleep

Regular exercise will improve your blood flow, which will make your skin glow. After a while, you’ll start feeling additional benefits, such as overall better mood, more energy and the fact that you’re not getting tired as fast as before. And of course, don’t neglect your beauty sleep.

Lack of sleep slows down your metabolism, and does other things as well – reduces muscle mass, makes you nervous and unfocused, and makes your skin sag. In the long run, the consequences become more serious, and can even lead to heightened risk of serious problems like diabetes and heart disease. Horrible, right?

3. Don’t go overboard with eye makeup…

Unless you’re going to a Halloween party, you shouldn’t look like Cleopatra. Tone down your eyeliner, because where eyeliner is concerned, usually less is more. You should line the upper waterline because it will make you look fresh and rested, but don’t use it on the lower lid. Do not use dark eyeshadow, and try to use the color that is the opposite of the color of your eyes. This way, your eyes will pop out more.

Don’t avoid false eyelashes, though. More and more salons are agreeing with Beautifeyes eyelash extensions policy – beautiful eyelashes make you look younger and prettier, so give them a go.

4. …And find the best lipstick choice for you

Lipsticks are tricky. In order to choose a right kind for you, you need to pay attention to the shape and fullness of your lips, the color of your eyes and hair, and your skin tone. Dark colors will make your lips visually smaller, so it’s no good using them on thin lips.

Similarly, if your skin undertone is on the warmer side, your lipstick should match the warmth, or your lips fill look a bit out of place. In most cases, you can still keep your preferred colors, the hues make all the difference.

5. Foundation matters

The tone of your foundation needs to match your skin tone. That probably means that you’ll need to change your products throughout the year because your skin will naturally get darker in summer and paler in winter.

Also, do not forget to apply moisturizer before applying foundation. If you skip this step, your skin will absorb the foundation, making it look powdery and wrinkly, and much older than it is.

6. Don’t forget to look after your hair

Now we come to the everlasting question – how often should I wash my hair? If you wash it too often, your hair will lose all its natural oils, and in response, your scalp will produce even more of those, pulling you into the enchanted circle – the more you wash your hair, the greasier it gets. On the other hand, if you don’t wash it enough, your scalp will get dirty and oily and that environment will help bacteria and fungi prosper.

You need to find the balance that suits your hair type. It depends on many factors, including your hair’s type and texture. Make sure that you use the appropriate products as well. The fact is, your hair can make you look much older, so it pays off to keep it shiny and smooth.

To sum up, the crucial thing is to keep your body healthy and energized, and you’ll look and feel so much younger. On the other hand, it is also very important to use your cosmetics the right way, and not abuse your makeup. That being said, it’s worth remembering that sometimes a little makeup goes a long way.
